What Type Of Epoxy To Use To Repair Skis
Well you have inspired me @blowfin - Figured I would just do it with whatsoever every bit I had been agonising (researching etc.) over what actual Epoxy to employ. Cold resistant and flexible - it was simply the bloody flexible part that was doing my head in.
Had seen some info that suggested that the longer the work and cure fourth dimension the more flexible the Epoxy is likely to exist so with that in mind I grabbed some bog standard stuff:-
Has 1-2 work fourth dimension and 3 solar day full cure so at $12 figured deceit be that bad (seems the quick dry type is more brittle) although I am certain they are all basically the aforementioned stuff (all the different names etc. is just attempts at product differentiation etc.) and every bit I said I was done trying to get the "correct" product.
My harm:-
Doesn't look so bad from that angle just the top canvass was fully released and a decent lilliputian clamper of board had come up loose at the edge join (thanks to the niggling border hold protrusion when information technology has taken the knock) as per:-
So a couple of edges to try and join - lets open it up a scrap so the Epoxy can get right in and tidy up that holding slice of rails:-
Plan was to make certain both the runway and topsheet edges got coated (to help with weather proofing) so I simply used a bit of duct record to limit where I was going to smear the Epoxy:-
Poor pic only you get the thought:-
Mixed Epoxy over about xx mins then simply used a foursquare cut plastic knife to push the Epoxy under the top sheet and around the rail etc.
Used about 6 clamps to try and get good contact and shape using 2 bits of sturdy wood:-
Then left it for the three days. The Epoxy didn't dry brittle and seemed to have a bit of flex. Equally per above fabricated certain all surfaces were coated:-
Cleaned up with pocketknife, file and a bit of sanding. Seems to have come up ok but of form could fail on the beginning day
Last few pics showing finished chore:-
This bending looks expert as new (most )
I'chiliad actually not sure why they had a join in the edge anyway?? Surely they could take had a unmarried slice as the border inst wrapped around the tails? Anyhow terminal picture:-
And then will run into how it goes in a month and volition report back
